Redesign for Safety and Beauty

Some say the half mile distance from Larmier Ave to Santa Ana Blvd was once the town center where horseback riders, and horse and buggy passengers, would stop and visit the local shops and mingle with townsfolk.

In contrast, the current four-lane design encourages drivers — often out-of-towners just passing through — to speed and impatiently pass drivers ahead of them, only to nearly always end up positioned at the next red light — at Santa Ana, Oak View, or Larmier (or consecutively all three of them) — sitting and waiting for the light to turn green, with the person they sped to pass sitting beside them or merely one or a few cars behind them.

This has been an issue for many locals who believe it isy an ineffective design, at least in that sense. Many complain about not feeling safe walking along the road, bicycling or pushing a stroller.

There’s got to be a better design for those who visit  or travel to and through this Oak View Half Mile. This site is intended to help make happen that better design, whether it be through ideas found in the common ‘road diet,’ or through perhaps more custom ideas, suitable to the unique passageway that it is.

At this site, you’ll find links to a recent county study, as well as information that Caltrans and the US Department of Transportation has published on ideas such as the Road Diet.  Readers can get informed on those ideas to be better able to address them, should Caltrans wish to move forward with them along this Oak View Half Mile section.
