Issues to Address - Oak View Half Mile

Issues to Address

This is a list of some apparent issues to address in establishing an Oak View Half Mile (OVHM) road diet:

      • Issue: Potential for Congestion and Diversion
        • Because of any real or perceived congestion within the Oak View Half Mile, will out-of-towners and those who wish only to drive through the Half Mile to and from their home or place of work decide to try and find a faster route along Creek Road of Santa Ana Road?
      • Solution? Signal Light Timing through OVHM
        • Will time the lights at Santa Ana, Oak View, and Larmier to favor drivers passing through during the morning rush and during return home hours work to minimize or actually reduce any congestion?
      •  Issue: Potential for Obstruction of Emergency Vehicles
        • Will police, fire, ambulance have trouble getting through Oak View Half Mile, on their way to a location in the surrounding community?
      • Soution? Ensure the middle lane has no islands
        • If islands (with trees, plants, etc) are installed, where can the EMVs drive to get through?
    •
      • Will shoppers be able to easily and safely turn into any of the Oak View Half Mile businesses?
      • Will the public buses find it more difficult to get through?
      • Will a better, safer design for all make the Oak View Half Mile a place to “drive to” instead of just “drive through” or in too many cases, “race through”?
      • Will on-street parking be feasible?
